"I Cannot Describe How Disgusting It Was": 24 Overhyped Travel Destinations In North America
Images
From Las Vegas and Times Square to Myrtle Beach and the Grand Canyon, travelers are sharing the popular destinations that left them underwhelmed, overcharged, or wondering what all the hype was about in the first place. "The one time I went to Myrtle, I asked a random lady with no teeth where, like, young regular people go out to drink, and she told me to go to 'Kiss Bang Blow' or some biker bar because apparently that's all there was. And then as we walked away, she yelled, 'I'll suck your dβ for coke,' completely unprompted, at our backs as we left." "One day in Vegas is cool. Two days is better. Three days is way too many. You begin wishing for a biblical plague to take away an undeserving humanity." "I worked in an advertising agency in my 30s, and there was a 23-year-old 'club kid' type girl who worked with me. She was going to Vegas for the first time with her boyfriend, and they were going for a week. When she told me this, I was like, 'A WEEK? That's WAY too long.' She gave me this patronizing look as if to say, 'OK, old lady, I don't think you realize what a 23-year-old club kid in NYC is up for.' When she came back a week later, she looked at me with worn-out eyes and said, 'Yeah, a week was way too long.' It's WAY too long." "I did the tourist thing and stayed at the Fontainebleau. Incredibly expensive city, all money, no class. It all just felt trashy, and it's one of the worst beaches in Florida." "Nashville. It's the worst city in America to drive a car in β narrow streets, constant party traffic, drunk pedestrians everywhere, no parking. Will never go back." "I was so creeped out by the surrounding tourist streets at Niagara Falls. I went on a cold and kind of dark day in November, so there was barely anyone else there, and I felt like I was in a horror movie with all the scary, empty attractions. At least the falls were cool." "Plymouth Rock is the perfect answer. I went there as a child and again as an adult. What a letdown. In school, they make it sound like Plymouth Rock is an unavoidable mountain of a boulder, and when you get there, you see it's no bigger than a stone driveway marker."
