The hotel is rewriting what it means to eat, drink, and belong in this city Standing on the hotel grounds of Andaz One Bangkok, one might not be aware of its rich historical background and why certain decor elements set against the walls and high shelves reflect the site’s history. But if you have an eye for all things visual and appreciate detailed craftsmanship, you’ll be sure to spot local artists’ works well placed across the hotel. Stepping into the hotel entrance, ceramic artist Khun Pim Sudhikam’s artwork, ‘Apocrypha Scripta,’ (2025) is a play on sculptural clay forms that pays tribute to her hometown. Meanwhile, in the main lobby, you’ll be wowed by Ploenchan (Mook) Vinyaratn’s grand handtufted carpet mural which shows a vast expanse of the city’s lively streets and how the cable lines are connecting the grids of each neighbourhood.Weaving all these local art pieces into details of the hotel, Thailand’s leading interior design firm PIA sought to bring the city’s heritage and character of its locale by incorporating key design references. The lobby’s grand windows are complemented by traditional Thai window grill elements. Corners of the rooms are shaped into the arches and curves of historic landmarks such as Vidyu Palace. The history of Andaz One Bangkok More than a century ago, the plot of land now occupied by One Bangkok was a vast expanse of rice paddies known as Tung Saladaeng but it was so remote it almost didn’t make it to the map of Bangkok. But in 1914, something historical happened. The Saladaeng Radiotelegraph Station was inaugurated, becoming a cornerstone of Thailand's early communication infrastructure. It introduced wireless communication to Thailand, marking a pivotal moment of modernisation, and established the country's first direct communication link to Europe. The station was so defining it later was renamed Witthayu – "Wireless Road."Then came One Bangkok. More than a century after the station first began operating, the foundations of the radiotelegraph station, its 60-metre radio mast, and everyday artefacts buried beneath the ground were rediscovered during construction. Rather than pave over this heritage, the developers chose to honour it. They excavated, conserved, and revealed the site's history by reconstructing the long-lost building and establishing a permanent exhibition – The Wireless House.Checking into Andaz One Bangkok After the usual briefing at reception, the check-in process was seamless and we were ushered to our room, a king bed park view deluxe (63 sqm) that overlooks the Lumphini Park. What I really liked about it was the floor to ceiling elements that allowed for natural light, also giving it a modern and contemporary feel. A long couch set against the corner was the perfect space to catch up on my reading, and the occasional daydreaming. Compared to most modern hotel rooms, the bathroom tends to be half the size of the bedroom, which is not in this case. For someone who spends a lot of time in the bath with her bath salts and books, I truly appreciate the spacious area. There was even a neat bamboo tray caddy to set up my phone if I wanted to indulge in some Netflix. The amenities were provided by Byredo, honestly, the best smelling bath ranges alongside Le Labo, so this is another plus point for me. The his and her vanity bathroom was another highlight as I could easily deck out my beauty products without having to mix up with my husband’s although he does steal mine a few, occasional times.Sleeping in was a breeze and I slept thoroughly without any distractions so much so that I almost wanted to pack the pillows back home.Dining at Andaz Terrace, Jing and Piscari Andaz Terrace serves as the hotel’s breakfast spot, with an outdoor terrace that turns into a breezy drinks spot with the occasional DJ spinning the coolest tunes. The breakfast buffet offers the usual hot and cold dishes and you can order off the ala-carte menu. Breakfast buffet is comforting and staff hospitality is top-notch. I didn't realise my husband stole my fork until a staff member glided over and replaced it. It's these little details that make you know you're being well taken care of. My love for Chinese food has no bounds so checking out Jing Restaurant at Andaz One Bangkok is a must. Leading his team is ex–Michelin Selected Chef Marvas Ng, who formerly worked at the MICHELIN-selected Path restaurant in Singapore. Here, the must order are the crispy roasted pork belly and char siu that melts in your mouth. If you have an affinity for spice, the poached red spotted grouper is a lovely addition as the sichuan pepper gives you the right kick. Honestly, I wished I had a lunch or dinner for four so I could order a variety of dishes to be shared, as everything was even better than I could ask for. As nighttime beckons, I made my way to Piscari, a modern Mediterranean restaurant located on the 23rd floor of the hotel. With couples and friends clinking drinks around us, I can see why this spot is the hottest postcode in town. Piscari offers a rich, flavourful sun-kissed coastal Mediterranean cuisine by French Chef Marc Vasseur who brings extensive experience from Michelin-starred restaurants. To start, order an apéritif from a cocktail list that playfully brings a modern twist with bold local fruits. Golden Burst was what I needed for a pick-me-up as it features a blend of gin, Lillet Blanc, suze with passionfruit. Another interesting drink to order is the Fool’s Errands as it mixes gin, suze, Lillet Blanc with Americano, truffle moscato and banana. I was pretty excited with what Piscari has to offer: the cured ocean trout reminded me of cute bistro eats by the South of France, although I was not a big fan of charred orange in my meals, but I get how the sweetness complements the flavours. The corn and pomegranate salad is a light and refreshing toss while the hand-sliced jamon iberico served with pan con tomato is finger-licking good. For my main, I opted for the lobster bisque topped with spinach and tarragon, so rich and creamy my heart was singing praises. My partner who had the charcoal grilled Australian rib-eye swore it melted in his mouth and it was almost like he peeked into heaven. Another must-go when we return to Bangkok this year.Wellness and facilities centre As guests of Andaz One Bangkok, you’ll be in good hands of a team of personal trainers who are on standby to correct your posture and deepen your training. I signed up for a stretch class with Aom, who spent some extra time making sure I went deeper into my stretches during her yoga session. To recover, the sauna room was a nice way to slow down. Also, it’s good to note that the gym space is loaded with the latest Technogym machines, so you won't want to miss leg day. Lounging during the day at the infinity pool, frankly speaking, isn’t a bad idea as well.Final thoughtsI loved how One Bangkok is right next to Andaz One Bangkok so you could practically walk across the hotel to get to your shopping grounds. This is one city hotel that I feel absolutely terrible for leaving it to go about my daily activities as the comfort and convenience are some of the biggest alluring factors. It’s vibrant, comforting and almost feels like a second home when you’re in Bangkok. I know I will return, for sure.
