(NewsNation) — Authorities confirmed a missing medical aircraft has crashed in New Mexico, killing all four on board. The King Air aircraft was traveling from Roswell, New Mexico, to the Sierra Blanca regional airport for a medical transport and failed to arrive as scheduled in the early hours of May 14, 2026. After reports of a fire in the Capitan Mountain area, emergency responders worked to access the scene and located the aircraft. Officials confirmed all four people on board were dead at the scene. The identities of those on board will not be released until their families have been notified. Pilots nearly blinded by cockpit smoke prompt NTSB safety push “Our hearts and prayers go out to the families, loved ones, friends, and colleagues of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident. Lincoln County asks the public to respect the privacy of the families during this difficult time and to avoid the area so emergency personnel and investigators can safely continue their work,” the Lincoln County Offices of Emergency Services said in a statement. The fire from the crash is currently less than five acres, and the U.S. Forest Service is coordinating fire suppression efforts. The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration have been contacted and are involved in the response. The cause of the crash is not yet known, and the NTSB will handle the investigation. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
