A growing number of Labour MPs are coming out against Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, with some calling for him to resign and others urging him to set out a timetable for his departure.

Four ministers, including Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips, have resigned.

Labour's process for removing a leader requires 81 MPs to back a single challenger. Although there are more than 80 calling for the prime minister's resignation, there is currently no unified support for one specific opponent.

Meanwhile separately, more than 100 backbenchers and junior ministers have signed a statement saying this is "no time for a leadership contest".

More than 100 Labour MPs have signed a statement, that reads: "Last week we had a devastatingly tough set of election results. It shows we have a hard job ahead to win back trust from the electorate.

"That job needs to start today - with all of us working together to deliver the change the country needs. We must focus on that.

"This is no time for a leadership contest."

Rupa Huq, the MP for Ealing Central & Acton, had also been on the list. However, she has since posted on X that she was "surprised" to see her name and had not "either signed any letter supporting the PM or called for the PM to go".

Matthew Hicks announces a return to the "back benches" after Reform UK's county council victory.

Ministers including Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips have resigned over Sir Keir Starmer's leadership.

Police are investigating after the result was allegedly shared online before the formal declaration.

He says he wants to take the town in "a positive direction" after Reform won all available seats.

Andy Burnham, Angela Rayner and Wes Streeting are all potential candidates for the top job.
