“My grandfather had maintained two marriages for over 40 years.” I'm a Senior Staff Writer based in New York City, where I've been covering classic BuzzFeed-style content since 2020. We also used replies from these threads. "His wife felt all kinds of guilty afterward and took it out on everyone she talked to, and lost a lot of friends in the process." "Turns out he was an old friend of my grandmother's who showed up to give his support. In a small town like that, it wasn't exactly an unusual thing to have random people show up at the funeral home who knew the person at some point. Well, about a year later, my grandmother let slip that she was seeing someone: the guy from the funeral. At this point, nothing too odd — she said they got to talking at church, and we thought it was sweet. Then, a bit later, sweet innocent ol' Grandma mentioned that it was their third anniversary. Grandpa died two years prior. This man was the person that grandpa saw in his house every night. He was the reason that everyone thought my grandfather was losing his mind; he was the reason that my grandfather was medicated to the point of being a vegetable for the last horrible year of his life. TL;DR: Grandpa thought he saw someone in his house before he died, turns out it was Grandma's boyfriend." "I spent the next two years sharing a tiny office on a tiny island with the person that I quite honestly loathe more than any other in the world." "My grandfather had maintained two marriages for over 40 years, having seven children with my grandmother and just the one with this other woman. They knew about our family and kept away, and apparently, my grandmother knew about them but kept quiet. Turns out he wasn’t going to the pub every night." "After six months of this strange behavior, one day my friend came back from a class, opened the door next to the kitchen, looked to the side into the kitchen, and there were two of the odd-acting roommates staring back at her, deer-in-the-headlights style. Turns out he'd been hiding his twin brother in his room since he'd arrived and thought that the roommates would report him to the University if they found out, so they took turns leaving the room, or watching if the coast was clear before they both came out, alternating cooking meals one at a time, etc." "He was on his way to see his wife. Unfortunately, he stopped by the bar first. While it wasn't my job, I went with the nurse to talk to the wife and let her know what happened. She thanked me for being there for her family so much that day." "Details: We've grown up together since we were babies. He was six months younger than me, and we had a lot in common. My parents eventually got a divorce when I was younger, and we both lived our lives. Fast-forward to our late 20s, his 'father' had passed away from cancer, and he wanted to find out some information about his DNA and medical risks. He went through Ancestry.com and swabbed his cheek. Apparently, when you do this, Ancenstory.com automatically links your DNA with common relatives on the site. His linked to my cousin, who had also had her cheek swabbed. My cousin called my sister and asked why this random person all of a sudden said that we were related. We called my father and asked him what the hell was going on. He admitted that 30 years ago, he had an affair with my friend's mom, and he had no idea that this friend was actually his son. The mom regretted it happening and told her husband, who said even if she got pregnant, the child would be raised as his own. It is cool having a new brother that I have known my entire life already, so there are no awkward conversations when we talk. It has gotten to the point where we can laugh about it, but he certainly had to go through a tough time thinking that his father wasn't actually his birth father. Especially finding out right after he passed. I told my mom about it after, and it was nice seeing her be relieved over 20 years after the divorce that she wasn't wrong not to trust my Dad; she was right all along." "So a legless Nigerian ex-felon with no ties is somewhere in the US, and no one knows where he is." "Eight years and a baby later, we are happily married." DMV lady: 'Why does his Social Security card have a different last name on it? We can't let him have a permit until you get this fixed. Why's it different?' Mom: *Without ever looking at me* 'Um...because before today, he didn't know he was adopted.'" "They both bonded over what a complete shithead he was, and both decided they were better off without him and dramatically left him when he got back from his business trip. I'm pretty sure the two women are still friends." "Additional plot twist: They got married, and after six years, she discovered his other wife and kids. He must have been a sweet talker, alright. This was 26 years ago; I'm doing fine." "Doctors can't figure out how she got pregnant in the first place. She's very bitter that I have the family and life she wanted." "At first, I thought he was trying to kill this poor woman off through her drinking habit, but he got fed up and tried to murder her so he could have the house. But according to neighbors, she killed him to stop the apparent abuse he'd been putting her through. She is in a secure unit now, where she will most likely stay." "UPDATE: I found out the woman's name and believe I have found the correct one on social media. She got married in 1979, which lines up with the story, but she lives in Green Bay, WI now." "Fast-forward 70 years: Grandma dies, and my father goes to Argentina to meet with family and find and pay respects at said uncle's grave. He starts going from cemetery to cemetery, searching for his uncle's grave. He can't find it. Maybe he was cremated? So he starts going from mental hospital to mental hospital (we don't know where he was hospitalized), searching through records. Soon enough, he picks up on a 70-year-old trail and follows his uncle from hospital to hospital, some of which closed down decades ago. Finally, he reaches modern times...and PLOT TWIST, finds his uncle alive and well, 96 years old, in a Buenos Aires mental hospital. Anyway, long story short, my dad took him out of the hospital, put him in a supported living environment, and got him off 90% of the meds they had him on. Thus emerged a relatively stable (but still schizophrenic) old man." "About five years ago, my brother and I went with my dad to a family reunion where we discovered his parents were once again in love, and had invited both of their families to my grandpa's farm for a big weekend party. I met close to 100 people I was somehow related to, including dozens of cousins and several aunts and uncles. It was all thanks to my dad that these two huge families came together and made new connections, so he, along with my brother and me, were treated like celebrities all weekend, and everyone wanted to get to know us. My dad's adoptive mother died over a year ago, but now he has two 'new' parents who are relatively young and extremely interesting people for him (and my family) to spend time with. We go skiing at my grandpa's condo in Montana, and enjoy summer activities at his huge farm property in Alberta. The whole experience taught me that you're never too old for a new love, and I am happy to be able to have grandparents for many more years to come." "They told her last year. I still make 'maybe you're adopted' jokes about her, but they're 100x funnier now." "Tl;dr: met a friend, high-fived over my grandmother's corpse, leveled up to cousins." "Word spread quickly, and by the time we arrived, I had a huge group trying to help me solve the mystery. A teammate of mine found out as the night went on that Adrienne, the cute girl I sat next to in social class, had a temporary dolphin tattoo on her left shoulder. After some prodding by my friends, I went over to her and the group of girls she was with. A slow song started as I sheepishly asked for a dance. With the entire school watching my two-week-long mystery reach its climax, she leaned in close and whispered in my ear 'You're an asshole sometimes...' promptly followed with a slap across the face. I'd never felt that level of confusion/embarrassment. She'd orchestrated the whole thing because she didn't like my class clown demeanor in social studies class. "Apparently, this guy would target overperforming agents and make their working environment hell to protect his position. I'm told the supervisor simply stared at his feet and nodded when told he was fired. The agent, as I understand it, was also let go, but very well compensated." "They took the last six students who were alive and brought them in front of the class one at a time so we could all debate if they were the killer or not, and the person could plead their case. The teacher brings my friend up and says, 'Okay, tell us what happened.' And my friend starts explaining how he had to be sneaky and so on. So there was a good 20 seconds where I just didn't understand what he was talking about. There wasn't any great reveal or drumroll. He just brought him in front of the class and started explaining how he killed everyone. I lost my shit pretty good. The other twist that I forgot to mention is that at week two or three, he went to a student that he didn't really talk to much and told him that he was the killer and that he needed him to kill me. So he hands him a few of the notes, and from then on, he had a guy on the inside helping him kill people. That's why he could kill so many people without being caught, because if someone got killed, I was with my friend, so I could vouch for him. The teacher said there was nothing in the rule book that said you could get another person to help you kill people. It was a huge gamble because the other kid could have just said I caught the killer and the game would be over." Submissions have been edited for length/clarity.
