30 Extremely Petty People Who Totally Owned Their Toxic Bosses

I've never seen someone write their resignation letter on a cake before. I'm a Senior Staff Writer who writes a wide range of topics, spanning from people's real-life drama to pop culture to funny things I find on the internet. Employee: "I would like to know if I am still employed with [redacted] please. Instead of wasting both of our time with coming up there tomorrow. Thank you [redacted]" Boss: "It's amazing that now you respond to your text! 🙌" Employee: "It's amazing how patronizing managers at this establishment are. I'll save us both the trouble. I resign as shift lead at [redacted] effective immediately. I'll be in for my check Monday. Thank you." Employee: "Hey [redacted] I'm just wondering how the clock in system works. I've notice on my paycheck it is always rounded to 15 minutes. I clocked in at 4:01 today and I'm just wondering if that gets rounded to 4:15 or 4:00? Thanks!" Employee: "Okay that makes sense. I've been clocking out when I'm done instead of intervals so I just wondering about that." Employee: "So If I clock out at 10:40 does that get rounded up to 10:45 or 10:30?" Employee: "Also is it possible to get a record of my time sheet?" Boss: "I never done that before. I will ask [redacted]" Boss: "Np. But nothing shady is happening. It works that way everywhere" Employee: "I'm sorry I didn't mean to imply anything shady was happening. I was just wondering if I need to wait for a 15-minute interval to clock out. And I just want to know for next time, that if I clocked in at 4:01 and clocked out at 10:44. Would that mean I lose out on 28 minutes of pay?" Boss: Yes or it will round down when you punch out" "$14.00 is not enough to essentially manage a store. I (we) are not managers. We do not need to be available 24/7. We are not paid enough to afford rent. — staff" Boss: "[redacted], I’m going to need you to come in tomorrow. Anytime between 7–8am to start. Tks." Employee: "Hey [redacted] I’m actually visiting with my family for the holiday so I won’t be able to" Boss: "[redacted] and [redacted] are both out “sick”… I know it not ideal but Im going to need you to step up to the plate for this. Tks." Employee: "I’m sorry but I’m multiple states away visiting family. I literally can’t come in tomorrow." Boss: "Unbelievable. Just the other week you were complaining bout money and you dont have enough to eat and now when I offer you extra hours which means extra $$$ you dont jump on the opportunity?" Boss: "You better not be moping around BOH complaining anymore. Im giving you an opportunity to make more and you pass it up and do nothing bout it..." Employee: "That’s extremely disrespectful and uncalled for. I’m not responding to anymore messages, that’s so inappropriate" Boss "Hey [redacted], we’re gonna need you to cover the 7am shift tomorrow as Justin called out. Be here at 6:15 for prep." Boss: "[redacted] it shows read. I’ll see you tomorrow at 6:15. Thanks again." Employee: "Hi [redacted] sorry I won’t be able to come in tomorrow. Have you asked Brian? Thanks" Boss: "Brian is married with a kid, I’m not asking him on short notice. You’re single, why can’t you come in?" Employee: "[redacted] it’s my only day off this week and I have plans. I can probably come in in the afternoon but I’ll need to get back to you on that here in a bit." Boss: "We need someone to cover the early morning shift. The afternoon isn’t going to work. What do you have planned that you can’t come in?" Employee: "Helping a friend move in the morning, but that isn’t important [redacted]. I have plans on my day off so I cannot come in. I apologize but I will not be able to work tomorrow morning." Employee: "You trying to mandate this at almost 10pm the night before is ridiculous [redacted]. You know I’m a hard worker and I’m loyal, but I would ask for some respect as well." Boss: "Can’t your friend find someone else or wait until you get off? I would caution you to choose your next words very carefully, [redacted]. I know you’re strapped for money this month." Employee: "I’m sorry but I cannot work for you anymore. This is ridiculous that you are saying these things. We’ve known each other for almost four years and you know I’m a good worker. Consider this my two weeks notice. I’ll see you Monday unless you have me terminated before then." I saw your e-mail. Don’t worry, I’m not mad. I can see why you would think I’m 'inconsistent' and 'not much of a team player.' I mean, that time I covered for your girlfriend when she had an emergency? Totally selfish of me. And let’s not forget the fact that I only called out sick two times in the past 4 years… how inconsistent of me! So yeah, I get it, I’m sorry you feel that way, but that’s life, eh? I’m sure this store will be much better off without me. Good luck with everything. P.S. I'm not coming in tomorrow because f**k you." Writing says: "I have chosen this type of paper for my resignation as a symbol of how this company has treated me. I quit: "If you read my message instead of just looking at dollar signs, you’d see I messaged you about a Sous/Exec Sous role. The job that was attached was not the correct one. That’s my mistake, but you are not qualified for a six figure Exec Chef position. Recruiter: "If you read my message instead of just looking at dollar signs, you’d see I messaged" Person: "Is this a joke or something? Does this guy actually work for you and is this how you" Recruiter's boss: "I apologize, I do see the word 'Unsubscribe' at which point, all communication should have ceased." "[Name/company redacted]’s net worth is over 400 billion dollars. Our sales plan for just today is over 100k dollars. A 24 pack of water is $4.98, without pro discounts. If [name/company redacted] is not comfortable with sparing $4.98 once every few days for its employees to hydrate, then I will be buying water with my own money and leaving it in this employee-use fridge, for employees to take." "I’ve been reminded that marking down water is not a year-round thing + should only be done during the Spring/Summer." Note says: "Good luck finding your fourth token. Best [Redacted]" "hi mira...i heard you know that i’m not actually sick. i did lie. i lied because you’re overbearing and controlling and i knew you wouldn’t give me this time off. i’m young and i have a life to live and i’m not gonna let my job take higher priority than my happiness. like you wouldn’t even give me off for my own birthday how could i expect you to give me off for a willie nelson concert? anyways, i was gonna tell you this on tuesday, but i think it’s fitting to tell you now. i got a new, better job at a place where i will be valued, where my mental and physical health will be taken into consideration, and where i will be allowed to take off for whatever reason. your history of toxicity and manipulation in our workplace has left wounds on so many of my coworkers and friends. i have stayed for so long because of the money i made and because of the love i have for all my coworkers. the way you treat us isn’t right. that it why i’m leaving. that is the only reason. you and only you.thank you for your time.i would say it has been a pleasant experience but it absolutely has not.[Redacted}" Boss: "OK but I also want you to look at the bright side, you are hitting $1 million regardless of any of the challenges! Be proud of what you and your team have accomplished" Employee: "I have been furious all weekend with the company’s choice to cut payroll, I can’t believe they’re choosing to do this. I just hired [redacted] too, and told them I have hours available that now I don’t. I feel completely disposable. Wait until we make the company a million dollars but then who cares about our lives and livelihoods? We can be homeless as long as we come to work on time. I’m so angry." Boss: "Hey [Redacted]. We’re short staffed for the rest of this year because Sarah just quit without any warning. We’re really backed up so I’m going to need you to come in during thanksgiving this year. Don’t be shocked if you have to come in during christmas eve and day too." Boss: "I already told you 3 weeks ago I need that week off and you agreed. Now you’re changing your mind? I will not be working Thanksgiving, and if you ask again I will not be working for you at all anymore." Employee: "we’ve had to set expectations with you multiple times this year. coming in is the least you can do. your pto request has been denied. i’m not asking you to come in, i’m telling you that you have to." Boss: "And I’m telling you that you’ll have no worker at all now. I quit 👍" Writing says: "PS- You'll never pass third grade spelling and grammar like this. I quit :)" Boss: "Hey, I just sent you an email with the changes. I need them ASAP." Employee: "No worries, I’ll get to it first thing in the morning. Night!" Boss: "No I need em now. I gotta send it off asap." Employee: "It’s fucking midnight! I’m already in bed. Why are you only sending me this now?!" Boss: "It’s been a crazy day and I only got to reviewing it last hour or so. Come on man." Employee: "No offense but that’s not my problem. I’ve already shut down for the night and I’ve gone to bed. This is extremely unreasonable!! What if I was already asleep? What were you going to do?" Boss: "K whatever. Call me in the morning." I [redacted] am officially putting in my resignation. My last day will be Wednesday, [redacted]. The main reasons for my resignation are due to your poor management of our store and its employees, and the simple fact that [redacted] as a company is not in the least bit competitive in terms of its pay. To be completely honest, I have worked under many managers and none have destroyed a perfectly competent team and turned nearly every employee against them in such a short period of time. You do not know how to communicate with the team, or even treat them with the respect they deserve as part of YOUR team. You threaten and retaliate against every person who disagrees with you or has a problem with your actions. You micromanage every detail of the store. These things show that you do not trust anyone to do their jobs properly, and that you lack accountability. Overall, you act not like a manager or a leader, but a tyrant. I would also like to point out that it is painfully obvious to everyone in the store that you hate [redacted] and have been working non-stop to make his life a living hell and feel as unwelcome as possible in our store. Though he does have his faults and have areas to work on, he is far better at being part of the team, and showing good leadership when it counts. It genuinely breaks my heart to see the passion so thoroughly drained out of a person as they watch their career slowly get torn apart. My personal feelings will not interfere with my work performance, and I will maintain a professional attitude during my remaining time with this company."
