The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for various raw beef and pork products produced by Illinois-based Blackwing Meats because they were sold without the benefit of federal inspection, and may bear a false mark of inspection.

According to FSIS, "Food produced without inspection may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants that put consumer health and safety at risk." The health alert includes various products including packaged ground beef, ground pork, steak, and other cuts of raw pork and beef. This health alert is part of an ongoing investigation by FSIS, and additional products may be added to the alert as more information is obtained by the USDA.

This a public health alert, not a recall, as it has been initiated by FSIS, and not the producer, Blackwing. However, if you have the following products, FSIS urges you not to consume them, since they have the potential to contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants.

The following products are included in this public health alert:

5-pound box of 8-ounce packages containing vacuum-packed "Blackwing Organic Meats Organic Beef New York Strip Steak," with "EST. 1996" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

10-pound box of 16-ounce packages containing a vacuum-packed package of "Blackwing Organic Meats Organic Ground Beef" with "EST. 1996" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

5-pound box of 8-ounce packages containing a vacuum-packed package of "Blackwing Organic Meats Grass Fed Organic Beef Stew Meat," with "EST. 1996" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

5-pound box of 8-ounce packages containing a vacuum-packed piece of "Blackwing ORGANIC MEATS ORGANIC BEEF STEAK STRIPS," with "EST. 1996" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

1-pound vacuum-packed package of "Blackwing Meats Blackwing Beef Ground From Organic Beef," without USDA mark of inspection.

12-ounce vacuum-packed package of "Blackwing Meats Pork Ground Made From Organic Pork," without USDA mark of inspection.

12-ounce vacuum-packed package of "Blackwing Meats Boneless Center Cut Pork Chops 2 6-ounce Made from Organic Pork," without the USDA mark of inspection.

The first four products listed above feature an unauthorized establishment number "EST. 1996" listed inside a false USDA mark of inspection. The last three do not include any USDA mark of inspection.

These products were produced from April 2024 through March 2026 and shipped to wholesale and retail locations nationwide.

As mentioned, the false and missing USDA inspection marks were discovered during an ongoing FSIS investigation into Blackwing Meats.

At this time, there have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury due to consumption of these products. However, consumers who have purchased any of these products are urged not to consume them. FSIS is concerned that some product may be in retailer or consumer freezers. If you have any of these products, throw them away or return them to the original place of purchase.
