Yet another popular shopping mall clothing giant is shrinking its retail footprint as it grapples with declining sales.

Torrid, which targets women sizes 10 to 30, closed 151 “structurally unproductive” locations in 2025, including 77 in the fourth quarter, the company announced in its 2025 year-end report to shareholders.

The brand was founded in the City of Industry, California, in 2001, opening its first store at Brea Mall. As of early 2026 with 483 locations across all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Canada.

Year-over-year net sales fell 9.4% to $1 billion, Torrid CEO Lisa Harper told investors, while expressing confidence that the company is poised for a turnaround.

“We closed 151 structurally unproductive locations, launched five sub-brands that generated approximately $70 million in sales, and fundamentally restructured our product assortment around core franchises and fabrications our customers value most,” Harper said. “Trends in Q4 and early Q1 give us confidence that the foundation we’ve built is beginning to take hold.”

2025 was a rough year for a large number established mall retailers. Forever 21 and Rue21 closed all of their remaining locations, while Claire’s, Carter’s, American Eagle Outfitters, Victoria’s Secret and Foot Locker also shuttered large numbers of stores.
