Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) viciously turned the tables on President Donald Trump and his administration during a tense hearing about military action against Venezuela on Wednesday.

Pushing back at the rationale for the January capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and the dozens of airstrikes on alleged drug trafficking boats that preceded it, the congresswoman said mere suspicion of crimes gave the U.S. zero legal ground to invade another nation and seize its leader.

Crockett later asked her peers to consider how they’d react if a foreign country deployed the same logic on them, hitting the point home by using one of Trump’s most unshakeable scandals.

Crockett: "What if someone from another country said 'We're gonna come and bomb America, kill civilians, because we have a warrant for the president's arrest because of the child sex trafficking in the Epstein files.' Reminding the room of the president’s well-documented links to convicted sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein, the Texas Democrat wondered what would happen if another nation decided to “bomb America” and “kill civilians” because it had an arrest warrant for Trump.

“I can guarantee that every single one of you that is sticking up for him right now would be screaming from the rooftops,” she said. “The analysis has to be the same.”

During the hearing, Crockett also accused Trump of working to oust Maduro on behalf of big-time donors interested in Venezuela’s vast oil reserves.

“It was never about protecting Americans, it was never about bringing democracy to Venezuela, it was never about stopping illicit drugs from entering the country,” she said. “Like everything else this administration does, it was about corruption.”
