BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Niagara University student was killed in a car crash early Tuesday, the school confirmed.

The name of the victim has yet to be released. A second student involved in the crash is in stable condition and receiving medical care, the university said.

“Niagara University is mourning the loss of a student following a serious traffic accident earlier today. … This heartbreaking news weighs heavily on the entire campus community,” the university said in a statement. “The university is in close contact with the families to provide support, care, and accompaniment during this extraordinarily difficult time.

“In accordance with the wishes of the families, Niagara University will not release identifying information at this time. We ask that the media and the public respect their privacy and join us in offering prayerful support to their loved ones.

“Support and counseling services have been made available to all members of the university community. Information regarding campus memorials will be shared as it becomes available.”

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information is available.
