I purchased these for my trip to Italy, and I was pleasantly impressed at how well these shoes held up. These were the only shoes I wore through Rome and through the Tuscany region. I logged 73,000 steps, 56 flights of stairs and inclines, and 33 miles with these. They are comfortable, lightweight, and supportive. Even through the cobbled streets of Rome!” —Pam Caffery Get them from Amazon for $35.99+ (available in women’s sizes 6–10 and 16 colors). I brought a pair of Vans to Japan with me, and friends? Terrific decision. Observing the proper shoes-off decorum at temples and shrines could not have been easier. Highly recommend. Promising review: “So comfortable! I absolutely love these shoes! I got them to wear with a sundress on a trip and ended up wearing them just about every day. They match with everything. I usually get blisters on the back of my ankles with new shoes, but I had no issues at all. As always, Vans never disappoint!” —Tori Get them from DSW for $54.99+ (available in women’s sizes 6–11 and two colors). Here’s what BuzzFeed writer Gabriela Manjarrez has to say about these much-loved sandals: “I spent three weeks traveling through eight different European cities and let me tell you — bringing these sandals with me was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. My most-worn pair of shoes during my trip, hands down. The reasons I was on the hunt for comfy sandals were 1. I didn't want my feet enclosed all day while trekking the whole city in warm weather and 2. Some outfits simply pair better with sandals. I hiked up to the Acropolis of Athens in these babies, and that stone floor was slippery. And still, out of my group of 11 family members and friends, I was the first one to make it to the top (and yes, I did brag). I even told two of my friends that went with me to get these for the trip, and they were eternally grateful for my rec.” Promising review: “Super comfortable! I bought them for my trip to Hawaii, and these were the only pair that I kept on. Small hikes, beach, strolls around the island, they provided so much support and were more comfortable than my regular shoes.” —Lizette Martinez Get them from Amazon for $34.99 (available in women’s regular and wide sizes 5–12 and 20 colors). Speaking as a “bring only one pair of shoes unless you absolutely cannot avoid a second pair” kind of jetsetter, this is one of my preferred pairs of travel shoes. Thanks to those big ol’ lug soles, they’re a terrific pick for trips that involve hiking or other outdoor activities — and they’ll keep your feet dry the whole time, too. (Trust me: The value of having waterproof shoes on any trip cannot be understated, especially if they’re the only pair you brought with you.) These chunky buddies have already hiked through forests in Romania and tromped along fortress walls in Denmark with me; they’re also coming along with me to South Korea shortly, where they’ll see me through big cities like Seoul and outdoor adventures in places like Jeju Island. They’re definitely going to be up for the challenge! Promising review: “Best purchase ever! Wasn’t sure if they actually were going to live up to the hype, but they were fantastic on my trip to Iceland! Didn’t have to break them in at all and they were so comfy, definitely waterproof and so easy to get on and off. Highly recommend spending the money.” —Sammie Get them from Vessi for $180 (available in women’s sizes 5–11 and six colors. Also available in a low-top version). Promising review: “Bought for 10 days walking around NYC. I am not exaggerating when I say this is the best purchase I have ever made from Amazon. These boots are amazing, and I am about to buy them in two more colors. I bought these specifically for a long trip to NYC where I knew there would be tons of walking. These shoes held up. Not only were they comfortable even after hours on my feet and miles of walking, but they also were easy to clean if something marked them. I am pretty hard on shoes, but these still look brand new. I honestly should not have brought any other shoes with me because these were the only ones I wore, and they looked great with all of my outfits — would have helped a lot with my checked bag weight…” —Jaclyn P. Get them from Amazon for $37.99+ (available in women’s sizes 5.5–11 and six colors/finishes). Promising review: “I have these in black and navy. Brought them with me on a trip to NYC recently. I walked a total of 22 miles in three days, and these shoes did not disappoint! Toss them in the washer and air dry, come out looking new.” —Gretchen M. Dowding Get them from Amazon for $23.99+ (available in women’s regular and wide sizes 5–13 and 20 colors). Promising review: “Great for wet cobblestones! I spent hours researching cute, functional sneakers for a trip to Europe, and finally settled on these. I am so glad I did! I wore them for 10 days straight, averaging about 18K steps a day. It was cold, so I wore wool socks with them and never got any blisters. The soles aren’t too soft but kind of bouncy, which made them pretty comfortable. But the best part about these shoes was the grip! We walked all over wet cobblestone and concrete, and while my husband was slipping and sliding, I was perfectly fine and had no issues. The only minor issue was that the toe box was a little narrow, but it wasn’t a big deal. Anyway, cute, functional, and comfortable. Can’t go wrong for this price.” —Beth R Get them from Amazon for $30.99+ (available in women’s sizes 5–13 and different colors/styles). Promising review: “Really happy with these boots. They are comfortable for walking, hiking, or driving. I took them on a trip to the UK and walked endless miles of country roads and footpaths, in all kinds of weather. They kept my feet dry, warm, and comfortable. No break-in time at all. I live in a tropical climate, so I won't be able to wear them much at home unless we get some cool weather. But they will def be coming with me on any trip north. "Fit is true enough to size. I normally wear a 9.5 in boots, and with the 9.5, I had enough room for decent socks. For very thick socks, you may want to go up at least a half size. The fit is somewhat narrow in the toe box, so if you have wide feet, this might be an issue. The length was fine.” —xLibris Get them from Amazon for $49.99+ (available in women’s sizes 5–12 and nine colors). Promising review: “Can’t say enough good things! I bought these boots only a couple of days before we left for a trip to Boston. It was our first time there, and I knew we were going to be walking a lot, so I was nervous about breaking these in while *on* the trip. But I read a couple of reviews that said they were great for being on your feet all day. Well, the reviews were CORRECT! We walked for a minimum of six hours for five consecutive days, and these boots were AMAZING the entire time!! It was also very cold (anywhere from 2–20 degrees), and they kept my feet warm. And they did great in the snow! Not to mention they’re very cute! I highly recommend these boots!” —KC Get them from Amazon for $42.99+ (available in women’s regular and wide sizes 6–12 and 12 colors). Pro tip: Tons of reviewers say these sandals are particularly good for theme park trips, if that’s your jam. Promising review: “Most AMAZING sandal! I have never written a product review, but I have read many before almost every purchase. I was recommended these sandals in a Facebook Disney group. I was very skeptical. I am prone to blisters and achy feet. I always pack Band-Aids and moleskin. My family and I just got back from a two-week trip to Florida. We went all over the place, averaging 30-40k steps a day. I wore these shoes exclusively. I didn’t get a single blister, zero aches and pains. I 1,000% recommend these shoes. I was telling anyone and everyone who even looked my way how awesome these sandals are. They are not the cutest, but I sure didn’t care. These are now going to be my exclusive theme park sandals.” —Levi Manning Get them from Amazon for $41.95+ (available in women’s regular and wide sizes 5–12 and six colors). Promising review: “I bought these for a trip to Iceland, and they were fantastic. My feet stayed warm and dry walking through streams, hiking over glaciers (they’re crampon compatible), and meandering around Reykjavík. They got soaked through when I was horseback riding and we encountered a chest deep water crossing and I thought surely I’d destroyed them… nope! I rinsed them with cold water in the sink after our trip, and they look almost brand new. I’d highly recommend these!” —Courtney R Get them from REI for $119.73 (originally $160; available in women’s sizes 5–11 and three colors). They’re also particularly good for folks with unique or complex footwear needs, btw — lots of reviewers swear by them for bunions, plantar fasciitis, and other similar conditions and ailments. Promising review: “These are the best walking/hiking shoes I have ever worn! I wear a size 11 narrow, but decided to buy this sneaker in their largest size 42 EU (which they size as 11.5–12). They just fit, so I decided to pack backup shoes while traveling through the UK for three weeks. But I wore these shoes every single day, and they were amazing! They felt a bit stiff at first, I had to wriggle my feet into them, but the support!! Never had any pain from a fallen arch in my left foot; the support was the best. It rained, it snowed, I walked on cobblestone streets and across frozen puddles. I hiked mountains and climbed endless stairs... a hike one day up a long, muddy trail and never were my feet wet or actually cold. I just wiped the caked mud off with wet paper towels and wore the sneakers again the next day. The all-black color enabled me to wear them out to dinner and pubs; they didn't look too ‘sneaker-y.’ Every day I swore, 'I'm gonna write a review when I get back' because I have never traveled with an all-around reliable shoe. So here it is.... no complaints!” —Amazon Customer Get them from Amazon for $119.95+ (available in women’s regular and wide sizes 5.5–13 and 20 colors). Promising review: “Perfect pair of sandals for vacation! I brought my Crocs Strappy Sandals on a recent trip to Vietnam, and they quickly became my all-in-one footwear solution! These sandals were the only pair I needed to pack, and they truly handled every occasion I encountered. Whether I was exploring city streets, heading out for a nicer dinner, or even spending time at the beach, they fit the bill perfectly. It felt amazing to have a single pair of sandals that was stylish, comfortable, and suitable for everything I wanted to do. "The strappy, neutral design allowed them to complement every outfit I brought, making it easy to go from day to night without any extra fuss. Plus, the slight heel height was just enough to make me feel secure and supported, whether I was walking on cobblestone streets or soft sand at the beach. "What really impressed me was their durability in Vietnam’s rainy season. These sandals are water-resistant and dried quickly after getting wet, so I didn’t have to worry about bringing different shoes for rain or shine. Their multi-purpose design made them an ideal travel companion, saving space in my luggage and making it so convenient to have one pair that did it all. I’d recommend these to anyone looking for a versatile, travel-friendly sandal that’s comfortable, stylish, and built to handle any adventure!” —Estel Tran Get them from Amazon for $27.95+ (available in women’s sizes 4–11 and 21 colors). Promising review: “Great for travel! These shoes were the perfect travel sneaker for my nine-day trip to Europe. They got me through tens of thousands of steps per day and my feet never needed a break. I got no blisters even though I had only worn them once before my trip!” —Taejasvi A. Get them from Allbirds for $70+ (originally $100; available in women’s sizes 5–11 and 13 colors). Friends. Do NOT sleep on Easy Spirit. Back during my service industry days, I used a pair of Easy Spirit wedge sandals as my go-to hostessing shoes — and believe you me, nothing worked better for standing all night during long, looooong shifts than those sandals did. Their shoes are built specifically for comfort — extended widths, arch support, orthotics, roomy box toes, you name it — and they get the job done beautifully. A must for long days of travel! Promising review: “These shoes saved my East Coast vacation! I needed comfortable shoes for our 10-day trip through DC, Philly, and NYC, and these were perfect! I have no idea how many miles we walked, but we were out and about for 14+ hours almost every day, and these shoes got me through! I have nerve damage from previous ankle surgery, so support and comfort are critical. My legs were sore from being out of shape, but my feet survived. Definitely recommend!” —pualilia Get them from Amazon for $31.14+ (available in women’s regular, narrow, and wide sizes 5–12 and several colors). Promising review: “Perfect shoes for Disney! I have purchased these three times now. They are my go-to sneaker. They fit perfectly, can easily be thrown in the washing machine. They are breathable, stretchy, and offer great support. I have done sooo many Disney trips in these, and my feet feel great all day. Best value out there.” —PamD Get them from Amazon for $38.71+ (available in women’s regular and wide sizes 5–12 and 13 colors). Promising review: “I bought these for a trip and wore them every single day. You forget you're wearing shoes. Nothing rubs anywhere. I wear a size 9, and I bought a 9.5, just as a precaution. Perfect. I was even told my shoes were cute! Stomped through icy fields with them. Walked the city. Great color, material is nice and thick. Feet never felt cold at all. Waterproof. Very durable. Excellent buy!! Well worth the money spent.” —Tania Get them from Amazon for $26.05+ (available in women’s regular and wide sizes 5–11 and 11 colors). Promising review: “Perfect travel sandal. Stylish, comfortable, and durable! I really put these sandals (in Sand Lime) to the test on a week-long trip to Italy, where I averaged 20,000 steps a day. Of all my friends, I was the only one whose feet weren’t in agony by the end of each day. I couldn’t believe how well these held up for long days of walking on cobblestones, stairs, and uneven streets. "It wasn’t until day seven that I noticed a little rubbing on the top of my foot from the band, but honestly, after the mileage I put on these sandals, I can’t complain. The comfort was incredible. "Style-wise, I love the color. At a glance, it looks neutral enough to go with anything, but then you catch a pop of the bright yellow or green sole underneath. I get compliments on them all the time. I was initially worried the plasticky sheen might look a little cheap, but that hasn’t been the case at all. These look great and have become my go-to travel sandal. Highly recommend!” —Shanleigh Get them from Amazon for $54.35+ (available in women’s sizes 5–11 and 24 colors). Promising review: “Very comfortable! I bought these for my trip to Europe. Normally, I wear shoes for a while to break them in before I take them on trips, but I didn’t have time to do it with these. So I threw them in my suitcase, brand new, and brought them. I walked many, many miles in a 10-day timespan, and these shoes were perfect! No issues at all.” —Kerissa Get them from Amazon for $39.97+ (available in women’s regular and wide sizes 5–11.5 and several colors). Promising review: “I love these shoes!!! I don't typically write long reviews but I really love that I bought these. I bought these a week before a trip to Iceland and France, no time to break them in. They were great! It was rainy in Iceland and I wore these everywhere — they still look great and the platform kept me elevated enough that I never worried about puddles or anything getting my feet wet. I even wore these on an excursion to Landmannalaugar and while I switched to hiking boots for hiking, I wore those on all the little sightseeing stops walking thru dirt and lava fields. "For France, they were great as well. Comfy like a sneaker but nicer-looking, so you don't feel like a tourist inappropriately wearing tennis shoes with a dress or a ‘nicer’ outfit. They also elevated casual outfits — navy capris and a white tee — to a little more sophisticated look, which came out great in photos. I bought the white pair and brought a white leather purse from Marshalls on the trip, which automatically made me look put together no matter what. "I can wear these with no-show socks and without socks. I will say that depending on exactly how fitted or roomy they are around your heel, you may run a risk of chaffing. I did not notice this until I tried to wear them with one particular pair of long socks — my heel was rubbing. I only did this because it was a colder day in Iceland. But once I switched to no-show socks on that same day, I had no issue. This seems to be related to the specific thickness of the long socks I was wearing, because with thicker socks, they were snug enough that there was no rub. With no-show socks, they are roomy enough that I had no rub. "I also had a stranger or two compliment me for my ‘cool shoes.’ "Overall, super awesome and a great value.” —Justina Pfister Get them from Amazon for $39.99 (available in women’s sizes 5–10 and 11 colors). I kid you not, my go-to boots for fall and winter are a pair of zip-up motos from Clarks that I have been wearing for almost 10 years. They’re still in great shape, and they’re still super comfortable. Talk about built to last! Promising review: “Comfortable and chic! I had foot surgery at the end of January and I bought these in March in preparation for the European trip that I just got back from. So much walking! I have to tell you they were perfect! I knew they were going to be very comfortable after I tried them on when I bought them in black, so I bought them in blue also, and also the white. For a weeks’ trip in Europe, I wore the black ones and packed the blue ones and never looked back. Beautiful colors, totally comfortable. And when our trip was over, unfortunately in the US, there was so many flight delays that I’ve been wearing them now for 25 hours straight with never taking them off. Best shoe purchase ever!” —EMT Get them from Amazon for $47.65+ (available in women’s regular and wide sizes 5–12 and nine colors). Promising review: “Great product. Comfort right out of the box. I bought those shoes to wear on a recent trip to Europe, and they were amazing. I wore them all day, walked between 20,000 and 30,000 steps each day with no pain. They also look really nice with dresses, fabric pants, jeans — pretty much everything. The only issue I had with those shoes was that I had to order a couple of sizes to actually get the right size for my feet, as they do run big.” —Merit Saad Get them from Amazon for $58.30+ (available in women’s regular and wide sizes 5–13 and different colors and patterns). Promising review: “Comfortable, sturdy, and stylish! They are so comfortable. I wore this black pair daily on a three-week trip through Italy, including walking on cobblestone streets, to the beach, up and down hilly streets, and they were great. Space in my backpack was limited, so these were the only shoes I brought besides my sneakers for when schlepping my backpack between cities. I have slightly narrow feet, so I love that I can adjust the strap over the instep. Just an overall comfortable, sturdy sandal. I also own the dark brown sandals, which stayed home.” —Nina Get them from Amazon for $25.99+ (available in women’s sizes 5–11 and 13 colors). Promising review: “SO COMFY!! Bought these for my trip to Europe and wore them literally every day and everywhere. They were the comfiest shoes ever and I wore them for miles and miles of sightseeing. Highly recommend, and they are cute, too.” —Lisa G Get them from Amazon for $47.73+ (available in women’s regular and wide sizes 5–12 and multiple colors and patterns). Promising review: “So cute! Held up really well, I wore these for a month straight as I traveled around Europe! I walked over 10 miles one day, and aside from a little dirt, they are still looking great! Also, I got the white, purple, and lavender ones, and the color is super cute!” —lindsnkaitsmom Get them from Amazon for $56.95 (available in women’s sizes 5–12; also available in seven other colors). Promising review: “Held up amazingly! Took these to a four-day camping music festival where it rained pretty much every day. Took them through super wet mud the whole time, completely soaked the front area. My white socks stayed clean and dry the entire time. I’m very impressed with them, and they’re true to size, and didn’t break, even though I tied the laces pretty tight. 10/10.” —Adam Eckhardt Get them from Amazon for $33.99 (available in women’s sizes 5.5–11, two styles, and five colors). Promising review: “The most comfortable shoes to wear sightseeing! I took these Kizik Slip on Sneakers on my trip to Istanbul, Turkey where we walked all over the historic art of the city where streets are cobbled! These shoes were easy to slip on. They gave support to my feet which were covering 11,000 Fitbit steps each day of sightseeing in an average temperature of 88 degrees. They were comfortable/breathable and gave good traction when hopping on and off ferries on the Bosporus. Also wore them on the 12 + hours of flying direct from Denver to Istanbul!” —History lover Get them from Amazon for $97.95 (available in women’s regular and wide sizes 6–16.5 and seven colors).
