Airbnb doesn’t have its own credit card, but you can use certain rewards credit cards to help cover your Airbnb expenses or earn more on your stays. This could help you save money if you’re a frequent Airbnb guest.

Why we like it: The Capital One Venture Rewards lets you redeem miles toward past travel purchases, often including Airbnb stays. This allows you to completely cover your Airbnb purchase using credit card rewards, which isn’t an option on every rewards card.

Why we like it: The Chase Sapphire Preferred provides 2x points on eligible Airbnb purchases, and it’s easy to redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points for Airbnb stays. You can redeem rewards for Airbnb gift cards, statement credits to cover your balance after paying for a stay, or deposits into an eligible bank account.

Why we like it: The Chase Freedom Unlimited is similar to the Sapphire Preferred in that you get the same redemption options for covering your Airbnb stay: Airbnb gift cards, statement credits, and eligible bank deposits. The difference is that this is a cash-back card with no annual fee, so it’s better suited for people who prefer earning cash back over points or miles.

Why we like it: The Citi Custom Cash is unique in that you can earn 5% cash back on your top eligible spending category each billing cycle on up to $500 spent. This includes select travel purchases, such as short Airbnb stays.

We say “short Airbnb stays” because stays of 28 days or longer could code as something other than travel and not be eligible for the 5% rewards rate in the travel category.

Why we like it: The Capital One Venture X allows you to redeem your miles for past travel purchases, including eligible Airbnb stays. On top of that, this is a premium travel credit card with excellent perks, such as extensive airport lounge access, for frequent travelers. If you don’t need the additional travel benefits, the Venture Rewards is a similar card with a lower annual fee.

Why we like it: The Citi Strata Premier has an elevated 3x rewards rate on many types of purchases, including multiple travel categories. This typically includes Airbnb purchases, making this an excellent card for earning flexible Citi ThankYou Points on your Airbnb stays.

Why we like it: The American Express Gold Card makes sense if you want to earn Amex Membership Rewards points on your eligible restaurant and grocery purchases while staying in Airbnbs. It’s also an excellent card for taking advantage of multiple dining-related perks while traveling. This isn’t the best card for earning rewards on Airbnb purchases or using rewards to cover Airbnb stays.

Why we like it: The Chase Sapphire Reserve has a flexible $300 annual travel credit that works for eligible Airbnb stays. All you have to do is use your card to make a qualifying travel purchase and the credit will automatically apply to your card balance. Like other Chase rewards program cards, you can use your Chase points to cover Airbnb stays through Airbnb gift cards, statement credits, and bank deposits.

Why we like it: The Wells Fargo Autograph Card provides excellent rewards rates in many popular bonus categories that can benefit the frequent Airbnb visitor. These include 3x on restaurants, travel, gas, and transit. For a no-annual-fee card, that’s hard to beat.

There are no specific credit cards for Airbnb, but you can use travel credit cards and cash-back credit cards to earn valuable rewards on your Airbnb purchases. For example, if a credit card earns elevated rewards on travel purchases, that should count for Airbnb stays.

Some rewards cards also provide ways to redeem your rewards to cover Airbnb expenses. Here are some potential redemption options:

Gift cards: Redeem rewards for an Airbnb gift card to add to your Airbnb account.

Statement credits: Book an Airbnb stay and redeem your rewards for a statement credit to cover some or all of the charge on your credit card.

Bank deposits: Receive a cash deposit into a qualifying bank account and use that money to book your Airbnb stay.

Cover past purchases: Similar to receiving a statement credit, some cards allow you to cover certain past purchases with rewards. So, you can book your Airbnb stay and later redeem your rewards to cover the purchase.

Note that using statement credits and covering past purchases requires you to make the Airbnb purchase first and then later use rewards to cover the cost. An advantage to these methods is that you will typically also earn rewards for booking the stay with your card.

Consider these questions as you compare credit cards to use for Airbnb:

Does it earn rewards on Airbnb purchases? For credit card rewards rates, Airbnb stays typically code as travel. That means if a card earns a higher rate on travel purchases, it should work for Airbnb.

Can you redeem rewards for Airbnb stays? Most rewards credit cards have redemption options that can work for Airbnb stays. That could include gift cards, statement credits, covering past purchases, and deposits into bank accounts. However, not every rewards card offers the best redemption value for each option. You want to aim for at least a 1 cent per point redemption value, or 100 points equaling $1.

Does it have any fees to worry about? The two main fees to consider are annual fees and foreign transaction fees. Whether you should pay an annual fee often depends on how much value you can get from a card’s benefits. Getting a card with no foreign transaction fees only matters if you plan to travel internationally.

Is there a welcome bonus? While not the most important aspect of opening a card for frequent Airbnb stays, earning a welcome bonus can be a quick way to earn a lot of points, miles, or cash back in a short period. Paying for an Airbnb could be a straightforward way to meet a sign-up bonus spending requirement.

A general travel credit card makes sense if you often use Airbnb on your travels. This type of card can help you earn more rewards on your Airbnb purchases, and you might also be able to redeem rewards to cover your stays.

Even better, a general travel card can help you save money on other travel expenses, such as flights and rental cars. Similar to their use for Airbnb, you can also earn rewards on and redeem rewards toward other travel purchases.

One of the main ways to save some money on Airbnb is to make sure you earn rewards on your stays. With a rewards credit card that earns on travel purchases, you can quickly start racking up points or miles on your Airbnb bookings.

Consider covering your next Airbnb stay with credit card rewards to maximize your rewards. If your rewards credit card has redemption options like gift cards, statement credits, or bank deposits, you can typically cover some or all of your Airbnb cost.

Booking through an airline shopping portal is an easy way to earn more rewards on Airbnb stays. For example, British Airways and Delta have partnerships with Airbnb to offer free ways to earn points or miles on each eligible booking.

When you're redirected to the Airbnb website, you can complete your booking by entering your applicable membership number through the rewards portal and completing it as normal.

You can often find gift card sales and discounted gift cards through online retailers at different times of the year. The holidays are an especially good time for discounts on certain gift cards. With Airbnb, you can purchase a gift card from any eligible retailer and then add the card to your account. Gift card funds never expire.

Hosts can offer early bird discounts for making a reservation a certain amount of time in advance. This is an optional discount each host can choose to provide, and the amount of advance time needed for the discount can vary.

It never hurts to ask, right? This mentality can save you money if you message a host before a stay to see if discounts are available.

Airbnb hosts can offer weekly and monthly discounts reflected in the final price. Note that this is optional, so not every listing will have this type of discount.

If possible, we always recommend being flexible with your travel dates. This booking strategy can save a lot of money because it opens up opportunities for traveling during cheaper periods, such as the off-season or during the week, rather than over a busy weekend.

One of our biggest pet peeves when looking at Airbnb listings is seeing 48-hour cancellation policies. We would only have 48 hours to cancel for free, which doesn’t work when we book things months in advance and don’t know if our plans will change.

Instead, we filter for properties with flexible cancellation policies. This allows us to cancel closer to our trip if needed, but we also have the freedom to cancel and book something else if we find a better deal. Free cancellation policies are fantastic if you like finding last-minute deals from hosts.

No, Airbnb doesn’t have its own credit card. However, Airbnb accepts multiple payment methods, including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express credit cards. You can also use Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, or an Airbnb gift card.

Using a rewards credit card is an excellent way to pay for Airbnb stays if you want to earn cash back, points, or miles to help offset your purchase. Purchasing Airbnb gift cards with rewards credit cards and then using them for your stay is also possible.

Here are different ways to potentially get a discount on your next Airbnb stay:

Book a stay for a week or a month

Book a stay well in advance for an early bird discount

Book new properties

Book through an airline shopping portal

Book with a travel credit card that earns points or miles

Message the host and ask if there are any available discounts

Purchase discounted Airbnb gift cards and use those to book your stay

Airbnb is typically considered a travel purchase for most credit cards, including the Chase Sapphire Reserve. That means you should be able to use the Sapphire Reserve’s $300 annual travel credit toward an Airbnb stay. However, user reports indicate that longer Airbnb stays of 28 days or more could code differently.

You typically can’t use credit card rewards to book an Airbnb or VRBO stay directly, but many rewards cards provide redemption options to book vacation rentals indirectly. For example, you can often redeem points for an Airbnb gift card, a statement credit, or a deposit into a bank account.

We compiled our list of the best credit cards for Airbnb by comparing the best cards from our existing rubrics for the travel, rewards, and cash-back categories. We also reviewed other credit cards that weren’t included as the best cards in these categories but held high scores according to the factors in our rubrics.

From these lists and our research, we selected cards with valuable Airbnb redemption options, such as gift cards or statement credits, and travel rewards credit cards with elevated rewards rates. We selected different types of cards to show potential cardholders the wide range of available options, including travel and cash-back cards from different credit card issuers.

Our final list of the best Airbnb credit cards is based on our rubrics, research, experience, and expert opinion.
